Short guide to the GEOWebforum
Welcome to the GEOWebforum
With the GEOWebforum a new internet panel for broad information and for discussion is at your disposal to facilitate discussion and information relative to themes in the domain of geographic information. The forum serves as a simple operated platform and structure for the active and direct participation of all participitants within the geo-information market in Switzerland.
Construction and structure
The forum is a present divided into 10 topics which are listed on the start page. In each of them you can find the corresponding discussions for which the user may propose a new contribution. By opening a new discussion, a contribution is directly created to which other users may react.

Rights of access and registration
As a forum guest you have the possibility of reading all the contributions in the forum. However, if you wish to contribute to the discussions in progress or to open your own discussion, you must be registered as a user (see the button "Registration" in the navigation bar). For this you must give in a user name and a valid email address. During registration you have the optional choice of giving additional information about your person. Using your user name and password, which will be sent to you by email, you will be able to connect to the forum at any time. Registration is free.
Making a contribution
By using the button [Open New Discussion] in a topic or [Add a Contribution] you can also actively participate in the forum and create a contribution. Moreover functions are available to format the text, attach a file, to reference to an existing forum contribution, to integrate an image from a web based source or by indicating its URL.
Accepting/rejecting a contribution
In order to maintain the contents of the forum at a high level all new contributions are initially checked by a moderator. This means that a contribution cannot immediately be made available after being created. When a contribution does not adhere to the rules of use (see menu item "conditions of use") in the menu it will be rejected and must be revised by the author before it can be made public. Contributions which conform to the rules will be directly released.
Changing the user profile
Already during registration you can give in information about your area of work, fields of activity, interest areas as well as your name and even insert a photo. This data can be changed or supplemented at a later time. This can be done after logging on under the menu item "my profile" in the navigation list. Also here you can change your password and the contact information in case of releasing or rejection of your contribution.
Search for a contribution
The GEOWebforum has a search function where you can give in a search word in order to search for contributions. Also the search date can be specified to search within a specific period.
